help someone find a job today. Shop at Goodwill Stores. As a customer of Goodwill you know by shopping in our stores you are saving money on clothing and household items. Did you also know that you are helping somone find a job? We invite you to visit our stores and see our selection...and also take the time to learn about our mission. Guide to Tax Deductions on Donated Goods: Every year we hear questions from our donors, asking how to claim their income tax deductions on what they have given to us. So here are some of the guidelines we can offer. As most people know, Federal law permits Goodwill donors to claim tax deductions for many financial contributions, and for donated clothing and household goods that are in “good, used condition or better.” If you’re unsure whether your item qualifies for a tax deduction, then consider this: if you would give it to a relative or friend, then the item is most likely in good condition and is appropriate to donate. In case this isn’t convenient for you, Goodwill Industries International has compiled a suggested list with price ranges for items commonly sold in Goodwill stores. Assume the items are in good condition, and remember—prices are only estimated values. A link to this Valuation Guide is below, as well as links to pertinent IRS publications. We hope these are of help, but please remember, your best source for information is your tax professional. We thank you for supporting Goodwill’s Mission.
