Goodwill

one good turn. saturday, april 26, 2008.

The 23rd Annual Good Turn for Goodwill Girl Scout Donation Drive is a fun and simple event, which allows Girl Scouts to give back to their community by collecting material donations for Goodwill.

The event has two parts. On Saturday, April 19th , Girl Scouts distribute event envelopes in their neighborhoods, which advertise the event and encourage the household/family to place donations on their curb the following Saturday, April 26th. Girls Scouts then return on Saturday, April 26th to collect the donations and bring them to their local Goodwill.

Troop Leaders will have from April 16th – April 19th, 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., to pick up the envelopes at one of the ten Goodwill Retail Centers located in Omaha, Council Bluffs, Papillion, Bellevue, and Fremont. On the registration form, the troop leader will mark which Goodwill Retail Center they would prefer to pick up the door hangers (and drop off the donations on April 26th).

On Saturday, April 26th between 9:30a.m. – 2:00 p.m. the Girl Scouts can drop off the donations at the Goodwill location which the Troop Leader indicates on the registration form. Girl Scouts can drop off the donations as one big troop OR they can come individually or in small groups with their parents.

On April 26th, Goodwill staff and volunteers will be present at the Goodwill Retail Centers to accept and tally donations. When the troop leader comes to a Goodwill Retail Center, he/she will check in with Goodwill staff and receive an info packet, which will include service patches (or rockers for those Girl Scouts that have participated in the past). Kelloggs treats will also be available that day for the Girls Scouts, Troop Leaders, and parents.

Following the event, Skatedaze (formerly Skateland Playdaze) will host a skating party for all participating Girl Scouts. The date/time of the skating party will be included with the info packet that the Troop Leader receives on March 26th.

A pizza party at the Amazing Pizza Machine and a plaque are awarded to the troop averaging the most donations per participating Girl Scout.  In other words, the total amount of donations brought in by a troop is divided by the number of Girl Scouts that participated. Each council will have a winner.

Thank you again for your interest in the Good Turn for Goodwill Girl Scout Donation Drive. Donated items collected during this event are then sold in a Goodwill Retail Center. The money generated from the sale of these items helps fund employment and training programs for people with disabilities and other disadvantages.
