"It's not everyday Goodwill names a building after someone. In fact, this is only the second time we have done so," says Rita Hamele, Goodwill Marketing Director. "Shelly and Janice are so deserving of this recognition. For more than two decades, the Harris family has supported Goodwill and helping those with special needs. The proceeds from Goodwill's retail sales benefit the agency's mission of preparing people with employment barriers for work, and managing diverse operations that create jobs for people with disabilities. In addition to providing reasonably priced merchandise for its customers, the Harris Center store will house Goodwill employment specialists to provide case management for participants in the agency's Employment First program. Through the Employment First program, case managers assist welfare recipients in identifying and overcoming employment barriers, finding and retaining employment, and securing resources necessary to become self sufficient. "The Sheldon J. and Janice R. Harris Center will be a legacy of the Harris family," says Hamele. "Allowing Goodwill to provide services to the community for many years to come."
